How does this coilover thing work?
I just got my groundpounder tubular k-member and a-arms in the mail and it came with GP's own brand of coilovers. The package says "fits: koni, lakewood, KYB struts" and it goes on to say that everything but kyb's will need some trimming". I was like #$%@#, I have to buy new struts?!?
So I was looking online and there are 2 kinds of kyb's. The "nonadjstable" ones look like they have the pedestals but they why are they non-adjustable? Could someone be nice enough to walk me through this?

What would happen if I slipped the coilover rings and springs over the stock struts? They look like they would fit. I just want to get them in there so I can install my tubular k-member

I have Griggs with Koni Yellows on my roadracer:
You will need to "adjust" the top of the strut like this:

Ok, so the base of the sleeve sits on the strut's lower attachment point. So if I could drill and saw any strut so the sleeve fits then I could use it in this application and there is nothing special about the struts mentioned in the manual. Am I right?

I believe that you are correct, in that ANY strut (as long as coil fits) may be used.
Some struts have more sideload capability (better/stronger), and may even have a bigger diameter rod, and may cost more to manufacture. But a strut is a strut. Personally, I have tried KYB's and thought they sucked, for many reasons.

I'm just gonna get medival on my existing struts then. I'm so happy that I dont have to drop $200 on new struts. This also lets me install my k-member without further ado
Thanks everyone!
