Re: oil pan gasket change
i also have a 1989 GT and several years ago i had to change the oil pan because it was so rusted out when i bought it that i was afraid it was going to leak.
it was a BIG JOB and to try and put the gasket into the slots in the bottom of the timing cover and rear seal was near impossible. it leaks to this day. to get the pan out i had to jack the motor way the heck up. had to remove the driveshaft and loosen the tranny mounts. the rack and pinion steering ..... took it off. but then think about this.... your working upside down. hopefully your car has the rubber gasket so it comes off easy and you dont have to scrape the old gasket off. i also had to remove the oil pump BEFORE i could get the pan out. i did this in my unheated apt garage with no electricity. dont think i would do that again. see pics below..... http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6...feb2000fm2.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4...tedfeb2dj9.jpg |
