TKO rebuild
Anyone ever rebuild a TKO ?
I blew 3rd gear and according to D&D (over the phone) I need to "replace the 3rd gear cluster and output shaft"... [I installed this tranny last august and only put 6 freakin opentrack events on it!!!]

I HAVE REBUILT A 3550, which is basically the same except for the output shaft. when you say that you blew third gear, did you take the trans apart yet, or are you going off the fact that it is just messed up in 3rd? i blew out the 3-4 shift fork, 1st&2nd gear sliders, and the synchro's. i only had the trans in for 6 months also(but i drive it like i stole it everyday, so i know it was my fault) if you did take the trans apart already, you do need to replace the cluster, if the teeth are messed up from the blown 3rd gear(did the same thing with a t-5) about the output shaft, i dont think you would need to replace that unless its bent, all the gears come off the shaft.

The tranny was "crunching" as I drove it in 3rd. Not going into 3rd (not during the shift) but once in 3rd, and applying power, THEN it would crunch (sounded like a cordless drill, hitting the clutch setting, and stripping gears).
According to D&D, they (over the phone) think its a 3rd gear, and 3rd gear cluster... Will pull the tranny (maybe tonight). Now that YOU are here to help, I may take some photos, and ask for your input.

Wow, what is it with 3550s\TKOs and 3rd gear....
The syncro going into third is already giving me trouble after a few months. Heck, my T-45 did better than that...
