Roller Rockers???
I'm pretty uneducated in the internal works of an engine and the advantages and disadvantages of certain things. What would the performance advantage of different ratio roller rockers be? What is the ratio of the stock roller rockers? What is the rato referring to, what is the difference between 1.6 and 1.7's, besides the number? Thanks for the help.

I dont think any of them came with factory roller rockers(except Maybe the cobra) but a 1.7 opens the valves more like a bigger cam would do creating more lift. I think all stock rockers were 1.6 rockers(non roller) and cobras had the 1.7s.

Thanks for the info. So, would that in effect create more power, or just create more of a broad power band to allow for higher rpm's?

Well, going to a roller rocker will free up some HP and also take away some of the wear on the valve train. As far as more power,I think that that would depend alot on your cam, heads, springs, etc. Im not real experienced in those combos on the 5.0 so maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject would like to help. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

Stock rockers were 1.6 on the 5.0 HO's and 1.7 on the Cobras as stated before. My understanding is the higher ratio rocker allows more lift on the valve, allowing more flow on the intake and exhaust, and more flow = more hp. Roller rockers also eliminate most of the friction that is generated with the stock mechanical rockers allowing for less resistance in the mechanical process of the pushrod lifting the rocker and the rocker pushing open the valve. Less resistance = more hp. I've heard that roller rockers on an otherwise stock motor can be good for up to 25hp.

i saw a few dyno test on a stock mustang with the 1.7 roller rockers. some gained up to 10 hp due to innaccuarcy of the stock arms and the additional lift provided by the 1.7's. but some lost hp due to worn out valve springs (valve float) from being worn out.

1.7's will hold them open longer, and like said above, less friction,
im about to install some crane 1.7's, check with me later, and i'll let you know how they improve, i have them in a box, but my heater core took a $&h%t yesterday and threw me off, maybe sunday i will throw them on, and track test wed.
