Re: rocker arm help
whenu have pedistal mount rockers u cannot adjust them like a stud mount,,,you need 0 valve lash and with the bolt on style you have to get the lash close to 0 as possiable..if some of the rockers are arent shimed right they will load the lifter u get a backfire.theres many different ways to check but the easy way its to get the shim kit from ford racing and take 1 rocker off at a time when the valve is closed and put the thinest shim under it re torque.see if the rocker has any lash/play in it if the rocker has lash/play in it take the shim out and that rocker is good.if there is no play the go the next size up untill there is no lash..dont be suprised if ur motor doesnt need any shims..u can change the valve lash by milling the heads, changing the cam, using a thinner head gasket.u can make ur life easy and get a stud mount rockers and set them at 0 lash and turn 1/2 to 5/8 of a turn

Re: rocker arm help
thanks goodyear1984. I'm not getting any backfire at this time but there seems to be more rocker arm noise than normal. when i'm driving i can hear the rockers over the engine. I have a shim kit from comp cam's and will be shimming this week if needed. thanks for the help.

Re: rocker arm help
two things about the noise. i used to run pedastal mount motorsport roller rockers. are they 1.6 or 1.7's? are your valve covers stock height, and last did you remove your oil baffle from under the filler neck. my 1.6's used to smack the baffle on my valve covers. i always heard noise from my roller rockers and was always told that was normal, and if they are 1.7's you have to use taller valve covers. hope this was helpful, good luck.
