heads and cam?
Well i just got a new stock 302 block, and was wondering what i should do... I am deffenetly going to have it machined and go to a 306. And just for good sake put a girdle on it. And I think i will get the 306 rotating assembly from dss. Now what would be a good setup far as heads and a cam for a decent price and i still want it drivable. Right now im looking at GT-40X heads and The Ford B303 cam = about 1,270 total. My original thought was to go completely stock (ford) and see what i could do... But lately i can't decide.
Any body have a good set up for half-way cheap.

X heads are a bit pricey if ur tryin to save money.. i'd look into the iron gt-40's, for the money u cant beat em, about 550 for the set. as for the B303, i have it in my stroker motor an its a great cam, makes good power an has a nice lumpy idle . i recomend it.

FRPP Catalog lists as follows:
GT-40X Aluminum M-6049-X303(64cc) or X305(58) boasts 65HP for $1250 GT-40 Aluminum M-6049-Y303(64cc) boasts 40HP for $1050 or GT-40 Irons M-6049-P303(60cc) for $538 but doesn't list any HP# How much HP are the GT-40 Irons supposed to make? I agree that if you're not concerned with gaining less than 60HP from heads than buy the Irons, but if you did want serious HP from your breathers, than there are probably alot of other heads out there that give the GT-40X's a run for there money. Such as TF Twisted wedge or Holley Systemax Heads.

Regardless of the heads, I'd definitely do some port work (matching, polishing,etc.). The kits from standard abrasives is good, plus only costs around $40.00, pretty cheap hp with a little time spent. Check out standard abrasives site, they give you a good idea about what to do. Also, if your gonna open up any ports cosiderably, you may want to get an all metal grinding bit form sears, they don't get clogged up and get trashed as quick as the sanding bits.

Well all of this has been real helpful. I think i will save up for the aluminum heads and have them port and pollishished or even try to do them myself. It looks to me if you spend twice the money on the heads you get twice the hp out of them. Money = hp
And hopefully i can reach my goal of 375-400 hp naturaly asperated, with it being a 306 and bumping up the injector size and using the gt-40 intake. My ultimate goal is to have 375-400 hp and then bump up my nitrous jets to 125 and have a 500 hp street car. I believe any more hp and it wouldn't be worth driving on the street.
