Superchip question
Hi! My car is a 88 gt ( speed density). A guy at the track with a 88 gt speed density, have switch to mass-air and gave me his superchip. Before the chip i was running 14 degree of timing. Now with the chip, i cannot run more than 10 degree.I know that the chip advance the timing, but 4 degree seem to be a lot . Do i have lost HP? My car seem to run just like before. Superchip recommend a 160 stat??!!?? I did not go to track since. Any opinion? I know a chip is not the best bang for the buck, but i did not pay for it. Thanks!

Chips like that are junk..just take it out reset your timing to 14-15..that will help more. And why they (or anyone) would recommend a 160 stat in a stock setup is beyond me.

Superchips are mass produced. There's no quality there. I did alot of research, and after my last set of mods, the car felt like it was missing something. I chose the JMS chip (it's the best chip on the market)....the car's a monster again. The chip from your friends car is not set up for your specific car, that's why it won't allow you to use your existing timing. Throw that chip out. Depending on your current level of mods, you might not need one to begin with and having it can actually be hurting you.

The chip at this point with your car is just a waste.
I wouldn't use it. |

I too have a chip (ads) got for free, i didnt see any increase in power, but i went ahead and left it in, my timing is around 12-13, i heard to use a 160 stat also, i put a stock 195 one in, and lost all kinds of power, i went to the track and ran a 14.4 @ 96, not good, the hotter stat caused my fan to stay on i guess....
