Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
With my current setup what is your educated guess on my 1/8 time? 308 w/ 520 lift cam, edelbrock perf rpm alum heads 2.02 1.60 valves, edelbrock air gap performer intake, roller rockers roller lifters, 625 vac secondary demon, c-4 trans w 3,000 stall, 3.73 rear gears with slicks in a 3,000 pd car. Please give me your opinion! My stock motor in the driveline setup went a best of 8.63. What do you think it will run????? Will post time ran next weekend!!

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
I'd say 7.9's or 8.0's. Good luck. i'm also going to the 1/8 track tonight, looking for 7.6 or better.

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
I went 7.601@92.2 last night, had to launch very low RPM to hook, crappy track. That converts to a 11.86@116. Got some more work to do but I think if I could have launched at 6000 like normal the 60ft's could have come down and times would have been better

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
You leave at 6000!!! must be a manual cause that would be one converter to stall 6000! And no wonder you blew the tires off why so high? And tell me your rearend/driveshaft/axles/mounts/etc isnt stock! lol i must baby mine

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
Why not so high? I usually bogg down under 6k, the ET streets really grab for me. No, nothing in the rear is stock, only the T-5 is completely stock. I'm looking at getting my axle tubes welded next. I've launched at 6k many times and left hard and straight.

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
that seems a little ridiculous to me ...... but i also do not think that shifting a 302 thats not stroked above 5900 is realistic, thats just me. What do you shift @? 6600?

How much do you pick up from shifting @ 5900 to shifting @ 6300???

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
Never been on a dyno, but the 331's like to rev, ask Jeff! lol he knows about high revving, anyway, I decided to shift there because I can feel the torque die off there, it pulls hard up top till then.

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
Lots of guys launch at high revs like that. USMC is not out of the ordinary there.

All motors are different. You can build a motor to make power to 4,000 rpms or 15,000 rpms, you just need the right machining and parts.

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
I guess thats the guys that can just buy a whole new motor when they shot three rods out of the side of the stock 2 bolt 302?? And it will be a little longer before i post info about what my car runs, they started leveling the new concrete and it didnt true up.....had to start ALL over! Its killing me waiting!!

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
Negative, I do not have the money to throw away a motor. I invested in everything forged and top of the line internals so that my little stock block 331 will last as long as I can get it to. Besides what is the fun of racing if your not using the powerband? Want us to shift at 3000 to save the rods? I wouldn't need slicks anymore either, or axles for that matter, matter of fact, I could put everything back to stock and have my engine last foever! WOOHOO!

Re: Educated guess on 1/8th mile time!!!
I shift my 302 at 6k, though I dont launch real high. (normally around 2-2500 when im street racing) I really didnt invest like those other guys to make sure my motor stays together that high, Im just to dumb to care. Plus if it does blow up, its a good excuse to build another motor!!! Though I am too poor to go through that again for awhile...
