Default last time i ask

ive posted this problem about three times already and thanks for the help so far. But nothing has worked. My problem is that my car surges and backfires, doesnt want to idle, and occassionally doesnt react when i push the gas. Heres the list of the things ive already replaced, and i had diagnostics already done

-EGR Valve
-TPS
-IAC
-Two temp. sensors, one next to the distr. the other under the upper intake
-Fuel pressure regulator
-fuel filter
-fuel pump
-new distributor
-spark plugs, wires, distr. cap
-clutch neutral safety switch
-no vacuum leaks
-timing is fine
-cleaned maf, tb, intake manifold
-ignition coil

Thats almost $700 just in parts that i have wasted on this car. Ive thought about just selling it but before this problem the car was in mint condition with a rebuilt motor that had about 16, 000 miles on it. With the car originally in such good condition, and after i spent soooo much time and money on it i dont want to sell it i just want to fix the problem. Im looking into the MAF but doubt that it is the problem. The problem is worse when the car is cold, but now is doing it all of the time. Thanks for any help guys. I love the car and would hate to see it go.

You have said that you had diagnostics done, but you have never posted what codes came up.

And, did you ever check voltages from the MAF and TPS like was suggested in your other thread?

The shop didnt give me the code, just what the codes meant. They were the EGR valve, IAC, TPS, ignitions coil, and clutch neatral safety switch. I put my brothers 94 maf on and it still ran like crap. How do i check the voltage of the maf and the tps? and if that is a problem how do i solve it?

For your TPS:

How To Adjust TPS
"Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords"
April 1993
A voltage reading must be taken using a digital volt/ohmmeter (DVOM) with the Key On/Engine Off and with the Key On/Engine Running. The TPS is located directly on top of the throttle body and is adjusted by loosening the two phillips mounting screws and swiveling the sensor until the highest reading is found. It may be necessary to elongate the holes with a small file to achieve the desired reading.

The spec range for Key On is from .88 to 1.0 volt; shoot for the .97 to .99 volt. With the engine running, the voltage should be no higher than 1.05 volts.

Incorrect Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage will result in reduced performance. The best way to take a TPS voltage reading is by using two safety pins through the wires coming from the sensor. The positive lead is attached to the green wire, while the negative goes to the black wire. Always ground the meter through the sensor's black wire. This gives a direct, and more accurate ground into the computer.

As for the MAF voltage, it is in your other post. However, I am not sure which pin is which coming off the MAF. Sorry. Ask the guys that were posting about it in your other post. I am sure they would help out with more details.

Cool! I hope that ends up fixing it. By the way, what MAF are you buying and how much is it going to run you?

If you plan on doing an future mods and have to replace the MAF anyway, you may want to go ahead and buy a bigger one now. Just a thought.

Default $60

Post up on this site or the corral for a used one. There is probably someone local to you that would do anything to get rid of their extra stock MAF. Somebody has one near you. $60 is rape for a stock MAF. Heck, go to a salvage and get one.

alright, i went to Advanced Auto Parts and bought a remanufactured MAF because i was planning on buying a bigger one later on. The maf i took off of my car had a small hole where the air went through (duh)...but this new one i got, which is supposed to be stock, IS COMPLETELY HOLLOW. All there is is the sensor and a hollow pipe. So the hole for the air to go through is about twice the size of the old one. does this mean anything or am i over reacting????

I can't quite picture what you are talking about, but as long as the sensor knows how much air is going past it, it shouldn't matter. Hell, just plug the thing in and see how she runs!

Am I understanding this right? You ran your Stang w/ the MAM not plug in, and it ran fine? I would think that would make the computer go crazy in closed loop!

It ran fine for about the 20 minutes that i dissconnected it. I dont know why but it just did. I was told that the computer set it self at neutral and just let all the air the motor needed to go through

Yeah, it shouldnt run good at all disconnected. Strange.

BTW, i have a stock MAF for sale if you still want one. Its an original ford unit from a 93 GT in excellent condition, had about 60K miles when pulled from the car.
