New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
Ive noticed that FRPP and 50resto are carrying this cobra replica intake, and the specs say it flows up to 350 hp.
Ive seen original cobra intakes say the flow is 400 hp. what gives? It doesnt sound as if the new intake is an exact "replica". I want to purchase the cobra intake based on the may issue of 5.0 mustang entry level intake shootout article. they ran the gt-40 intake, and everyone says the performance between the gt40 and cobra are pretty close. Im just not sure about the whole chinese replica thing.

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
I've seen those myself. They also make flowmaster rip offs called "master flow". I'm not sure of the quality of those pieces. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
I wouldn't buy that knock off. I have an Edelbrock Performer intake for sale right now in the classifieds. It outflows the Cobra intake. The intake is excellent shape. I'm including a 1/2" carbon fiber plenum spacer that helps your motor run a little cooler along with it. $325 shipped.

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
Nothing Chinese should be in a Ford Mustang, period.
I'd hold out on ebay for a used quality intake...if you get the Chinese one, you'll always wonder if you are getting optimal performance... Incidentally, I got my gt-40 intake used from ebay 5 years ago. Good luck...

The quality is not bad - I've ported several of them so far. The used Performer above is a better $ buy if it's in good shape.

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
Call me crazy (or insane), but I'm buying one of these and selling off a GT-40 intake for some extra $$$. I don't race, it's more for show now, so I just have always liked the look of the '93 Cobra intake. I'l probably regret it...

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
Remember when manufacturing left the big urban cities for the more rural areas where people would work for less? TYhe trend is not going to change, just go global. Now Mexico is loosing jobs to China.

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
Can you blame Ford? It's chepaer now and really not that bad. The one I got is pretty nice, although it's not as pretty as the powdercoted original. It just has the cast look like the lower half, and not the grey coated look. They could have included the EGR studs, but oh well, just a few extra bucks there.
I sold off my GT-40 and made a couple hundred $$$, and with this one, I can't tell any difference with the SOTP meter! I always liked the look of the Cobra intake anyway... |

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
I hate to br the voice of gloom and doom, but half of it is our own governments fault....not to be anti-govt but certain states like California won't let you stamp "made in th USA" unless it is completely made in America. Lets face it...their are few if any steel mills left in the US so we have to get our steel from somewhere else, eventhough all it is, is a 300lb block of steel when it comes in from China and its machined and finished by a worker in the US it can't be stamped made in the USA. I'm a sales manager for a major auto parts store and I've had this conversation with my vendors numerous times about brake rotors...Just a little insite form the other side.....

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
I wonder if it's better than the "typhoon" also made in china,it's a knock-off of an edel. perf I belive? Anyway I got it for $175 so I figured it was a pretty good deal?

Re: New Cobra Replica intake made in China?!!
They probably have different flow characteristics, but who knows. The new Cobra intake ws only $300 and still probably flows close the GT-40, so I'm not complaining. I do like the original Argent paint job bit better though, time for some coating!
