Post Fuel pump whine

I've noticed that my fuel pump has a louder high pitched whine lately. Is this trying to tell me it's about ready to implode?

I've had my car for nearly a year now and my pump whines as well, but still works. Someone told me a lot of the pumps do this. I just ordered a 190lph pump so she won't be whining much longer =)

It should whine to some extent, but if it is choppy sounding and the sound fluctuates, rip that baby out and throw it in your neighbors yard!!!

They definitely do whine, but if the sound has changed or gotten louder as SGWINN indicated, that is definitely a sign it is on its way out.

All fuel injected mustangs and ford trucks have that whine (it was VERY loud in my '91) so it may not be a problem. Of course, the power steering pump soon overcame that noise...but that's a different subject.
