Default High Beams Only?

My brother returns my Stang to me last night to show me how the headlights only come on in high beam. Turn them to low beam and they go out completely. All other lights work as they should.

Never seen this on any of these boards. Dimmer switch? Headlight switch on dash? Or did both lights go out exactly the same time? (They were replaced together but it was only like a year ago).

This happened to me about a month ago. My internal regulator in my 140amp alternator went out and fried my headlights. Pull the bulbs out and see if both filliments are there. If one of the two is blown, then replace them. I thought that is was weird that both of them would go at the very same time but I found out what caused it though. You might want to check your alt just to play it safe.

it sounds like your multi-function switch (turnsignal, wiper, high/low beam switch). mine went out a few months ago and did the same thing your did with no driving lights, and i had high beams. i was able to take one out of my parts car, but i saw in a cataloge that there $60 to $70 bucks.

Damn. It might be the alternator. I installed a 130 amp back in the summer. While installing sway bar bushings, I inadvertently jumped the two bolts on the back of the alternator with a long socket extension with the radio on. Really innocent mistake but it was enough of a jump to burn a place in my socket extension. Not good.

Others have recommended the dimmer switch too.

pony_power_90, I am a few miles out of Owensboro. Up here there are tons of Stangs - most like mine falling apart but there are a few sweet *** rides here and there.

i dont know what year your car is but the multi switch is different from 87-89 and 90-93 because of the air bag and dash is a lil different . ran into this problem with mine and couldnt get it through the moron's head at the parts store. ended up going to a salvage yard and geting one or you could try www.stangparts.com

Well due to some vacation and the holidays I just went after this problem. I installed some new bulbs and the problem fixed itself. Never burned both low beams out before at the exact same time...but I do replace bulbs as a pair.
