Default Longtubes and the AOD???

Hey All,

I was going to do the 5 speed conversion, I am now going to wait for a while. Please do not ask!

I still want the longtubes. I will be going with MAC but I have some questions. I know that MAC sells headers and h-pipe for the AOD, and I was wondering how they fit?

Should the install be the same for the AOD as it is for the T5? Raise the motor, ect...

My next question is this. If I were to later swap out the AOD, will the headers work with the T5? I think this part was answered.

Thanks

Ian

Talking Long Tubes

I use Hooker long tubes with an AOD and I know I could use the long tubes if using the T5. It would prob fit even better than w/the AOD.

I just put mac longtubes on my aod car last week. They went in, but were a pain. I ended up lifting the motor to the firewall, and took off the steering shaft, passenger side motor mount and starter. The bellhousing is a real pain to slide them around on the pass side. The first thing you should do when you start is take the instructions out of the box, rip them into 1,000,000 pieces and throw them out because they couldnt be farther from the truth. They tell you to install the headers from the bottom, but they go in from the top. They also said the motor only had to come up 1-2 inches, but i lifted mine probably close to 4. Hope you have an easier time than I did man, Good Luck. -John

Hey Notch,

You are not the first to say they were a pain! I am not sure if I want to go that route now.

I was thinking just shorty and cat h-pipe for now. I can always get longtubes at a different time.

I am really not sure. I can get a set of used shorty's for $100 and a cat h-pipe new for $300.

HMMMMM, too much time, too many decisions!

Do you have to have cats on your car where you live? Down here in the keys we dont have emissions so I just put the longtubes, a prochamber and the mac mufflers on my car with new tailpipes and it sounds awesome. I guess we are just lucky to not have emissions here. Good Luck - John

Yeah I am in Canada, need the cats.

They are supposed to start testing every time you go to get a new license sticker. We also have these little by law cars running around with testers. A fine is $679CDN, no warnings, just the bill!
