Question air pump problem

wouldnt you know, its always something....lol. this morning i when to leave from work and found the air pump had locked up and wouldnt spin. had this terrible squealing and realized i was frying the fan belt up because the pulley on the air pump wasnt spinning.i ended up removing the pulley and getting a much shorter belt in order to get back home. my question is.....how important is the air pump and / or can i just do without it?i went from a 91.5" belt to a 79.0" one and it seems to do just dandy.

thanks

jerry

just chuck it in the trash

If you dont have emissions testing you'll be fine. actually you might even still pass with it off.

Its just taking up space and making your front end heavier.
Theres no way i would spend money on another one to put one BACK on the car.

the air pump feeds fresh air to the cats. if you have cats and no air pump you will eventually fry the cats.

Toss it if you don't have cats.
