Question Parts

Well I wasn't really sure where to put this, so i'm sticking it here, and if the Mod moves it to the right place, thank you.

2 questions, the person who owned my car had the fog lights rigged into the running lights, this eventually melted the plastic piece in which the headlamp switch plugs into. I replaced that but I am now having problems with my dimmer switch. I took the whole console apart and everything. A fuse was also blown which i replaced and the cluster lights work now. Oh i also hooked up the fog lights seperatly so they work by there selfs now. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this. My dimmer switch will switch the dome light on, when it is clicked into the furthest position to the right. When i disable that, by turning the switch to the left, the cluster goes out. And it won't work all the way through the turning unless I turn the dome on and slowly turn the switch to the left, so that the dome light goes off, on which my cluster stays on. I took a look at the dimmer switch (my apologies, it's actually called a Reohstat control. might of spelled that first one wrong) the coil that goes around the inside looks fine. I cleaned all the contacts with very very very fine sandpaper cuz they looked a little scared. I also tested the switch for continuity and it works fine. So does anyone know what's going on? Maybe it melted some wires or something? i'm not really sure.
