Question setting timing at 14 degrees

I am new at these computer mustangs and want to know is there anything special I need to do before advancing the timing on my '88GT to 14 degrees?
I am used to just hooking up a timing light and turning the distributor until I get it where I want it. Is it still that easy or do I need to do something different now?

And take out the plug that is somewhere around the distributor, on the end of the harness.

What is that plug for and why do I need to remove it? Does it go to the computer?

It is the spout connector, and it is removed to fool the computer into using the new timing

Yeah, the SPOUT connector is just like the vacuum advance in a mechanical one, it just keeps the computer from advancing the timing so you can set actual base timing. Dont adjust with it in, you're car will run like a "slug at Bonneville". dont forget to put it back either.
