Default What hp and 1/4 time am I looking at?

Hi I have a 91 Gt 5.0 with a TCI street fighter tranny, brazed converter, Mac headers, american thunder cat-back, K&N air filter, fuel pressure reg, 190lph fuel pump, full tune up, strut tower brace, racecraft springs, G-load brace, hpm lower control arms, Also newly installed thuderbird coupe 8.8 rear with 3:55's. With 17 inch rims and 245/40/17 tires. What kind of times would I be lookin at and hp rating. If I got the X-pipe what kind of gain would I see in the 1/4 mile and hp. Thanks

Well, I'm usually not very good at these types of estimates, but I'll give it a toss and see if I get a ringer.

I'm sure you realize this, but I'd be surprised if you're making more than 235-245 hp at the fly wheel. About the only power mods you have is exhaust. That will help some, but without the matching components in the intake and shortblock, its potential is limited. Your fuel mods are great investments, but they're not gonna help you out at this point besides maybe a hp or two from jockeying with the fuel pressure. I doubt the X-pipe would give you more than 10 more horsepower, and if it makes any difference at all at the track, you may see a gain of 1-2 mph.

As far as track times, let's take a look. First thing is the AOD. I don't know much about the TCI's, but I assume the have a manual shifting valve body with some shift improvement? If so, that's a step in the right direction. Also, what is the stall on your converter?? If it's around 2800 rpm, that's another step in the right direction.

As far as your rear end, it's my opinion that you're under-geared. You need at least 3.73's for good acceleration and 4.10's are ideal. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you factored into your selection, you loose fuel mileage. Also, your 17" rims have effectively taken away some of the advantage of your numerically higher gear.

The suspension mods you have are also great investments, but I don't think the powerplant and tranny you have spinning the driveshaft are going to shock the suspension enough to take advantage of the work you've done in that area.

As far as track times, depending on what stall you have and what altitude you're running, I'd say 14.7-14.3 at sea level.

Of course, I'm usually a pesimistic person when it comes to my car.

I agree with Silver. He may be being too nice. Depending on how many miles you have and if your timing chain is worn out you might have around 200 hp at the fly wheel.

Silver that is a fast GEO.

Is that 44 secs in the Quarter? 1/16 x4= 1/4
4 x 11=44 secs

Well I know the gears are low I had 3:73 but I got into a little accident, well I have a brazed converter don't think it has stall speed but it has brazed fins so they don't bend under heat, also the engine runs extremely strong and I was guessing hp around 215 I left out I also have underdrive pulleys. Tracks elevation is like 880 or something low but do you think I have a shot at 14:1 or 14:2's. thanks everyone.

Yep...I pretty much suck at guesstimation. Ah well....take her to the track and see how she runs.

GodStang,

Heheh....yeah, it'll get up and go like a 550 lb mo-fo with two broken legs, spina bifida, COPD, and a bad case of the runnies.

It does get pretty good gas mileage, however.

You know....now that I think about it, I believe it did run a one-
time best of 21-22 seconds on the G-tech at close to 72 mph.

No kidding.

I am not sure for a GEO if that is good or bad. My buddy raced his little dirt bike against a moped at a drag strip. ran like 21 secs in the 1/4
