![]() I want to replace the fuel filter on my '88GT. I looked under the car today and was wondering if it was that cylinder shaped thing between the back of the fuel tank and rearend?
How hard are they to replace?

![]() That's it, and it's really easy to replace... make sure you relieve the pressure first by pushing in the schraeder valve on the fuel rail on the passenger side engine compartment, you'll still get gas all over you so a few rags is good too. and make sure you get the plastic clips that hold the line in the filter when you get a new filter, don't use the old ones! It's really easy... 20 mins, tops.

![]() Thats a bad way to do the Fuel Prussure releaf un plug the full reallay under the front driver seat of the thing in the back to the driverside of the Back of the car in the Hatch back there you can unplug that as well do one or the other then TRY to start the car a few times
MAKE sure the car is cold Not hot when you start that way the lines are not hot and the gas dont expan and make more Prussure. I hope you know What I mean Not Sure I know what I mean now LOL

![]() This might sound a little wacky, but I just pop my trunk and put a fist into the inertia switch and try to start the car a few times to relieve pressure. Then once the swap is done I simply press the reset button on the intertia switch...

![]() Ok, I got in on today. It was about a 15 minute job.
I never did find the inertia switch in the trunk or that valve on the fuel regulator so I just expected gas to come pouring out when I took the filter off.(and pour out it did!!) For future reference, can someone tell me exactly where this inertia switch is? Atleast I was able to expect gas all over an d made sure I was out of the way when it came pouring out, otherwise,I would probably have a face full of gas right now. Thanks for the help guys

![]() I don't know about the hatchbacks, but on the verts it's in the back trunk wall right above the rear bumper... you look through a hole in the plastic moulding over that wall and you'll see a red button. That button is the reset switch. The purpose of this interia switch is to cut-off fuel delivery in a crash... so in order to trip it, you kinda gotta give the switch a good punch with your fist... you'll know you've tripped it because you'll hear an audible click.
I don't see why ford wouldn't place it along the same wall of the trunk for hatches, so I'd look there. -John
