Default Fuel gauge

I just got my fuel level gauge mounted in the pillar. Now I need to wire it up. Can I use the wires from the factory gauge cluster or do I have to run new wires?
It looks like either way will be about the same amount of work, but if I have to remove the gauge cluster, I might as well send of my speedo now (I have 3 spares) to get the white face gauges and 140MPH conversion.
