Default Shifter Install

I have my Steeda Tri-Ax coming on monday and can hopefully put it in monday night. I was just wondering if anybody has some pointers so hopefully I can have a problem free installation. To start it off, how to I get that black bezel off around the shifter boot? Is there any other pieces that must be removed?

Not sure on the 89 but my knob unscrewed and then the black plastic just popped off and than took out the shifter from there. I recommened putting the silencer boot back on the tri-ax. My instructions said not to put it back on unless you really wanted too. I did not put mine on and my shifter is loud. The Tri-ax is one of the best improvements I have done. I love my short throw.

Be sure that you have the little plastic peice that the bottom of the shifter sits in at the linkage. If you don't have one, you can get one at the dealership for about $2. I put my shifter on and didn't have the plastic peice, and a week later I grenaded the tranny. I don't know if that had anything to do with the tranny blowing up, but it is definately worth the $2 to just to be safe.

Make sure to use a generous bead of silicone to get a good seal. Also, make sure you use threadlocker on the four bolts that hold the shifter base on. I forgot to use any and a week later, the bolts had almost vibrated out!!!

I had nothing to do today so I pulled out all the interior parts around the shifter and cleaned up the boots and such. I'm going to use silicone to seal the shifter and anti-seize on the threads. Thanks for all your input, I'll post a follow-up tomorrow night when I have it installed.

Just finished the installation of my Tri-Ax and let me tell you guys, if you don't have a shifter installed, GET ONE!!! I love the new feel and it's practically impossible to miss 3rd gear now. Only downside is a slight whining from the trans. The installation probably took around 2-3 hours total and I didn't come across any big problems. Thanks for all the feedback.

GodStang: I installed the boot like this and there hasn't been a lot of noise, just a little whining, you might want to try it.

FYI - anti seize and threadlocker are two different animals.
