Default how to test power to coil

my buddies car wont start so he dropped by to grab my stock coil cause he wasnt getting a spark at the coil.

well he phoned and he still isnt getting a spark with my good coil.

i know on my accel coil it has the + - markers . Ive never had to test before the coil.

I think i just have to grab my voltomiter and hook it up to the coil leads right. but what should the voltage be at and i have to do this while cranking right.

this will fall under experience . all my manuals are at home and I hope the computer isnt shot.

Bill do you notice the friends you help have alot more problems than you.
