I took of my smog pump about 6 months ago and right now i just have a free spinning pulley where it was. If I were to just bypass that pulley completely and free up about 12" of belt, would that give me a little more power?

Not really. You more than likely wouldn't even see it on all but the best dynamometers. Also, taking off the air pump only frees up about 1-1.5 HP, so if you noticed a difference after removing it......look for power elsewhere, I think you're wasting your time worrying about the belt. Now, underdrive pulleys are a totally different ballgame.
Get manual steering and ditch the entire a/c system if you're serious about losing parasitic drag. If you drive this car every day, I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for clarifying. I've heard a few different things. How much hp gains should i get from adding under drive pulleys and are there any certain brands i should stay away from? Thanks.

Who makes the best under drive pulleys or is there really much of a difference in brands?

I have not seen much of a difference in brands on 5.0 pulleys. You will notice a gain with underdrives and they are fairly easy to install. On 4.6s there is a big difference in brand however.

I've seen a belt diagram on this web page before. I need the diagram that shows the best way to by pass the smop pump.
Then do you just plug the vacuum line leading to the orface. I can't remember if there is any electrical leading to the smog pump. |
