Question Will new slicks help my E.T.

I have been running a set of Mickey Thompson 28x10.5x15 slicks. I bought them used in 2000 and they set in my garage on my car until I got it running last winter. I have ran them all summer but now there are worn to the bone. I have heard slicks get hard after getting too old. Is this true and when I get my new set can I expect an increase in my E.T.
