Need Major Help!!!
Hi everyone,
I wanted to put my motor and tranny in my car tomarrow (Sunday), but I have a few questions first. The motor is not a windsor - it is a 1973 429/460 block, but there are a lot of people who are very knowledgable in this section of the forum, and I need answers fast. Here are my questions: 1) On the block, there are two threaded holes in the back that are not for the bellhousing bolts. They are a little closer to the back of the crank. Are these supposed to be plugged, I mean, are these water jacket or oil gallery holes? 2) There are two threaded holes going into the bellhousing on my C-6 tranny. They are not for the tranny coolant, they just go into the bellhousing, like if you look through, you can see the torque converter. Are these supposed to be plugged, or are they vents, or...? 3) Do I fill the torque converter with fluid before I bolt it to the motor? 4) I was reading a book on installing the engine, and it said to have the marks on the flexplate and crankshaft to be pointing down. Is this true, as if I do that, the engine will no longer be on TDC for #1. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Josh |

Thanks for the replies. I ended up finding everything I needed to know and got the motor and tranny stuffed in the Mach on Sat. It's a tight fit, but if any one else is ever gonna do it and has questions, let me know. I also know where to get headers, motor and tranny mounts, and tranny crossmember that will fit PERFECTLY in a 70 Mach 1.
