Default HELP! Installing gear drive.

I am installing a gear drive on 89 302 H0. It is a cloyes model. Also am installing a crane 2020 cam.

When I put the cam sprocket on, it binds and the cam does not turn. I put the brass washer behind the cam sprocket that came with it. I came to the conclussion that the sprocket is binding on the thrust plate for the cam. I tried to center the thrust plate and it was better but still binding when the sprocket was completely seated. It goes on the sprocket fine out of the engine and the stock cam sprocket fits fine.

Can I grind out the inside of the thrust plate? Is the gear drive wrong/deffective? Any opinions? Any other info needed, just ask.

Do you have a dial caliper to measure the O.D. of the cam sprocket hub and the I.D. of the thrust plate? If you only have to take off a little, it shouldnt hurt anything.

Doesnt the block need to be drilled to hold one of the idlers?

The thrust plate fits over the cam sprocket hub out of the engine. When the cam is in and thrust plate bolted down it is a problem. I looked at a spare thrust plate and the hole looks out of round. I do have calipers but this was at a friends place out of town. I am going out ther tommorow.

I guess the question is, does the thrust plate center/support the cam and cam sprocket or does it just keep it from rocking back and forth?

As for the block being drilled, I didn't read anything about that in the instructions.
