Default cobra intake

at long last i'm installing my ecam and stock ported e7's i got the heads pretty cheap. anyway i am going to buy a cobra intake, i thought about the pro products, but i really want the cobra intake. anyway question is has anybody seen a cheap place for cobra intakes? i swear i saw an ad in 5.0 for 349.95 but i can't find it. also is there any truth to the comment i saw somewhere that they are now making knockoff cobra intakes. if this is true i'd like to know which is which. thanks guys.

Go to the junk yard and get a GT40 intake off of a Explorer. Can't remember the years, seems like 94-95ish? Expect to pay no more than $250. They flow better than a cobra.

If you absolutley hav't to have a new cobra, call Max at Five Star Ford. (800) 866-1520. Its in Az, but they have amasing deals on parts.

It'll work just fine- you'll have to move some hoses around, and block off a couple of others, I think there was a thread about this somewhere here, try a search, but it'll work great. The Explorer intake flows better than the Cobra intake, and I think looks mean on the motor, too.

The explorer intake does not outflow the Cobra intake they are identical for the most part. The Cobra and explorer intakes do outflow the overpriced GT40 intake however.

You should pay no more than 200 bux for an explorer intake or 250 for a cobra intake.

The new "reproduction" Cobra intakes are made in China. While the quality is not up to the original standard, it is not horrible either. I've ported ~6 repros so far.

If you have a Fox car and need to keep emissions, you'll need to get a 96-early 97 Explorer intake with the internal EGR passages like the stock intake. The 97+ intakes have external EGR systems like the SN cars.

Ive always thought the Explorer was the best bang for the buck, being I dont have many bucks to bang with. New parts, HA, I wish.

My current setup is a stock ported lower and a comp polymer upper. Its got unreal midrange. I would have gotten a Explorer, but I found a comp upper cheap. Seems you lose some low end torque in a heavier car with these things.

That shouldn't be a problem if your running that in the kit Cobra car.

They are genuine FRPP, butv they are also the Chinese intake "reproduction" of the original.

40 horsepower?! Nope...not even close. With aftermarket heads and manifold you might see around a 40 horsepower gain. But just the intake, on a stock bottom end...more like 15 horsepower.

I have an Edelbrock Performer 5.0 intake for sale. It outflows the GT-40 & Cobra intakes. The powerband is perfect for any street driven Mustang. It makes power all the way across the board. From idle...to 5500rpms. I'm selling the manifold for $300 + shipping. PM me if you...or anyone else is interested.

Why are you selling it? What are you going to go with?

I'm going with the Edel. Performer RPM-2 intake. I already have the Performer RPM heads with 2.02/1.60 valves...B-303 cam & 1.72 rockers. So the RPM-2 intake can only benefit me. My motor doesn't start making serious power until around 3,000 rpm & up anyway. The Performer is restricting me a little. My motor pulls hard 6,000rpms...or a little further. The RPM-2 makes it's power from 1,500rpms up to 7,500rpms (I think). With the RPM-2 I can finally get optimum performance and make more power in the upper rpms than I was able to with the Performer intake.

No, unfortunately I haven't dynoed my car. I'd love to someday. But I don't want to shell out the money for it right now. There are too many other things that need tending to on my car. But I'll let you know what 1/4 mile times I turn once the new manifold is on.

Baily, the only thing you will loose is gaskets and time. PUT IT ON NOW. I am doing the EXACT same. Ported cobra, ported E7s ( did em today) a stage 1 TFS cam. I can wait to see the results, Then a 100hp hit in the 4ss with the ol juice. I am like a kid again with this . But put it on, you will love it.
What do you run now?
