what headers are a direct replacment for the headers on my 93 5.0? i've set up the exhaust past the headers...i was told (by my dad) that it already had AFM headers...lair

...anyways I want to replace the restrictive lil demons...any suggestions? i dont want to spend anything more than 250 or so...i was thinking shortys because that seems the only kind that will work (but i'm not sure) without messing with the rest of the system...I have the stock collectors still...what should i look for when buying headers? thickness? collector diameter?...and what gains might i experience?

If you don't plan on adding much power down the line, the 1 1/2" unequal length shorties are your best bet. If you plan on making a lot more power (325hp+), you may want to go with 1 5/8". I'm not a fan of the equal length shorties because they're usually a nightmare to install, and they make getting around under the hood more difficult. For the little they actually add, it's not worth the extra money, banged knuckles, and exhaust leaks, IMHO.

There are a ton of reputable manufacturers. That being said, the factory shorties are actually significantly superior to cast iron manifolds, believe it or not. Dented and banged up as they might be, you're not going to pick up a whole lot by going to any set of shortie headers until you start working on the engine. Also, long tube headers are superior to the shortie designs, but it sounds like you've already invested money into the rest of the system. |

Yeah headers wont help much at this point.

underdrive pulleys, port you lower intake, gears, weight reduction etc... would be a good place to start.
