Question Roll cages?

I know some of you guys got em in your cars. I need suggestions.

In less than 2 months, the stang gets stripped down to it's bare exoskeleton to be body-worked, painted, carpeted, and roll cage installed.

I want this car set up so I can compete in True Street class. What point cage is required? 8,6? Manufacturers?

I was looking at in MM&FF an saw NHRA roll bars from Maximum Motorsports for 79-93 Mustang. 6-point 1-3/4x0.134"-wall DOM seemless tube. has removeable door bars.

Planning for tubular k-member and other goodies too.

If you go 11.99 or quicker you have to have a 6 point roll cage and if I am not mistaken the swing out door bars are not legal but I might be mistaken. I would have it welded in before the paint and have them paint the roll cage when they paint the car.

The place that did mine built it and welded it in and they did a great gob and I would recommend them to anyone. They will even let you watch or help if you want to.

They are in Kingsland GA. and the phone # is
Dave (912) 729-1347
Ralph (912) 729-8897

They both do the work so you can call either one.

At 11.99, you need a minimum of a 5-point (passengers side door bar not required). Swing out door bars are legal, at least to 9.99. At 9.99, you need the full 10 point cage with window net.

The MM roll bars are only legal if you weld the shock tower braces.

Check out S&W Race Cars in PA. They make mustang specific kits in both mild and chromoly. I paid $149 for the kit and another $150 to have it welded in. Pictures are on my website.

I'd suggest getting an NHRA rule book from your local speedshop and familiarizing yourself with the rules. The rules depend on how quick you plan on going. There's plenty more that you'll need to know with clutches, bellhousings, fuel lines, harnesses, etc.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the advice guys.

Jeff,

I'll get a rule book. Your tech article on your website is great. Thanks for the tip about leaving in the rear side panels inside the car b4 roll cage installation.

I'm gonna have to go back there and read the whole article and some of the others.
