starter noises
On my 82GT when I crank the engine over, the starter seems to be struggling. I just bought a brand new 1000 CCA battery. I was thinking maybe the starter motor was bad because of all the times it got hot next to the exhaust pipes.
I think I am going to get one of those '93 starters and put on. Which leads me to my next question...Does anyone know what wiring changes I need to do? Something about a selenoid on the starter on those smaller starters.....??? ------------------ '82 GT 351W C-4,BBK headers,Carter 625 carb,Comp.Cam,Flowmaster exhaust. 1988 GT...T-5,bone stock |

I wouldn't want to put a newer starter on. Just more to go wrong where you don't wanna work on it.
Ford had everybody beat with the old design, then they went backwards going to a GM style garbage piece. Sounds like your armature is grounding on your field coils. The starter is more than likely bad. |

I had the same problems you did after I put onmy MAC long tubes. I upgraded to one of the 92 up mini starters and it works great, sounds good to. Instead on cranking and cranking, I believe they are high torque starters cause mine fires right up when I tunr the key over.

I have one of those mini startes but (bout 8-9 inches long right?) I didn't buy it new. I actually got it with my car (no motor or tranny)along with the Cartech fuel system. I'm having A LOT of problems with mine. I really used it when I was getting the bugs out of my engine a month ago but now the tranny gets it hot and it's won't start the car. I even spent 20 bucks for a heat wrap from Summit. No luck. Starts great when it's cold though
