Computer Chip for 99 GT?
I recently purchased a 99 GT (auto) and am thinking about installing a chip (Superchips maybe). Can someone tell me if this really helps. The only mod I currently have is a K&N filter.

Probably not worth it for a N/A Motor. Save you money for other mods . . .
Underdrive pullies, X-pipe with cats to mention 2 that would definately help with hp gains. Will cost a couple hundred more than a chip, but would give you more bang for your buck. |

Gears...
First and best bang for your buck... Personally I recommend 3.73s Also consider a good aftermarket shifter (Tri-Ax or Pro 5.0 are good choices) RedGT is correct with the option of underdrive pullies also... Your money can be put towards better things than a chip on near-stock engine setups. With your engine putting out 260hp stock and 14 sec quarter miles, a few bucks in the right departments can yield some good times and fun driving.. ;-) ------------------ 98 GT Dyno-Max cat-back exhaust, 3.73 gears, Steeda shifter, Ford Motorsport Underdrive pullies, 87mm MAF and Roush cold air kit... |

Hammer, not an AODE person, but I think he will need a chip to correct speedo on AODE for any gears above 3.55's. That is why I didn't recommend.
Blkhrse, yes they are chipless, of cours unless you add a programming chip like a Superchip. When JMS finally comes out with the Chipmaster, then it might be worth doing but until then on a N/A motor still not worth it. |

I'm not an AODE guy either, so I may have mis-spoken...
I don't know if the speedo compensator is a chip per-se, but you called it an Abbott ERA (Electronic Ratio Adaptor). How this thing would hook in if its not a standard chip upgrade, I don't know. You out there Red for a little enlightenment?! ------------------ 98 GT Dyno-Max cat-back exhaust, 3.73 gears, Steeda shifter, Ford Motorsport Underdrive pullies, 87mm MAF and Roush cold air kit... Thanks for the help. I think I will pass on the chip and look into the other mods you guys recommended. By the way, do you have any recommendations on lowering springs. Want to lower the sky rider but don't want to kill my ride. Any of them better than others.

You can't go wrong with a set of Eibach springs!
Also, forgetting about the gears for a moment... Pulleys, an X/H pipe, and a cat-back system will give you a few horses for a bit of cash... Still waiting on that gear info RedGT! ------------------ 98 GT Dyno-Max cat-back exhaust, 3.73 gears, Steeda shifter, Ford Motorsport Underdrive pullies, 87mm MAF and Roush cold air kit... |

Having been there done that on my 99 GT aode. I would recomend a Bassani X pipe. Gave me the most performance improvement and exotic sound even with the stock mufflers. Abbott ERA won't work on the AODE cars. Motorsport "C" springs are also recomended. E mail me for where to get these at the best price.

With the 99 GT(Auto) toss the converter first. Add a cooler & shift kit and the car will be a rocket off the line. Also add a Bassani X-Pipe and Stainless cat-back and the car should be very fast. Hey John, I received permission from the wife to order the Vortech V2 SQ blower next month when it's released. I'm tired of wasting money on little mods. After the blower, I should hit 12s on street tires.

Thanks for the gear info John...
(This makes sense since RedGTvert uses the Abbot ERA and is not running AODE) So the question now is (for me), what do the 99-00 AODE GTs use as a speedo compensator? |

Hey guy's one quick ?. On my 5-speed car is there a way to correct the speedo. I have moved from 4.30's to 4.56's and my 21 tooth is a good way off.
