If you still have catalytic converters, leave the smog pump alone. If you don't, then go ahead bypass it.
Catalylitic converters need oxygen to work properly and the air pump suppies that oxygen. If you cut off that air supply, your cats will get clogged. Any horsepower gain from removing the pump is negligible. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |
I Run No Smog Pump & It Passed Emissions. The Belt I Got Was Ordered To Match The Specs I Told Them, But I Cnat Remember What They Were? You Need To Measure The Legnth It Needs To Be, Then Phone The Parts Store, & Ask For That Size Belt.

i just eliminated my smog pump. i was going to buy the $90 dollar pully and bracket but that doesnt do anything for gaining hp because it still has to turn the pulley. i just got a 76 5/8" long belt from the auto parts store. i have A/C. this works great! i use this car as a daily driver too. a 77" belt was too long for me but it may work for you. hope it does.
good luck! Adam |
