Smile Speed-accelerate

Hay Guy's.me again. While I'm here and have someones? attention? tell me? why when I shift into first? I accelrate and half way through first? I can feel the speed pick up markedly.Same when I shift into second.part way through the gear, you can feel a sudden surge of speed. Both gears are running at around 2,500rmp.Odd sensation to feel a surge in the speed(no turbo) by the way '88 5.0 stock

Most engines do that, simply because the power picks up at some rpm. On your engine, the peak torque is at 3800rpm, and peak power 4800. If you were to get a dyno graph from the car (or another 87-93 5L) you would probably see a sharp increase on the torque (and the hp cause it is dependant on torque and rpm) curve right aroun 2500 rpm, continuing up to the peak at 3800, and then a drop off shortly after that. Happens in all cars.

Sounds good to me. Looks like your new here, and I assume to modding stangs, start by getting some higher gears then you can take advantage of that power curve by getting into it quicker.

I think that there might also be some influence from your cam and your computer.

Your cam will kick in at a certain RPM and your computer will also "stop" the emissions equipment at open throttle. I noticed that with my chip my car hits the "point" before 2500 RPM.

Someone else may be able to explain this better, I'm kinda shooting from the hip.
