speedo off with gears!

i bought the car with 3.55's in her. what do i need to do to have the speedo corrected? Is this expensive if i take it to a shop? AND does it affect the rpm's as they climb too? Thanks! My sig should answer any questions about the car if u have any (the new one!)

According to my book, your '90 should have an 8 tooth drive gear, which means you need a 23 tooth driven gear. It's so simple to change yourself, I wouldn't waste my time or money to pay someone to do it. Also your gears don't affect your tach in any way.

can someone tell me or show me how using very descriptive words or PICTURES???!!!

Any idea what RPM I should be shifting at (when racing) with my mods too? seems like they really jump up there quick (must be all those extra horses under the hood!)

Thanks

It'll cost you about 7 bucks and about 20 minutes of easy work and half that is getting the car up on the jackstands. Any Ford house should have what you need. and thier price is the same. . about 7 dollars.
About 3/4 of the way down the left (driver) side of the transmission is a cable about 1/2 inch in diameter that goes into the transmission tail housing at a 45 degree angle. I'm assuming you have a t5. Auto's are pretty much the same. The cable is about where the transmission crossmember sits and is actually above it enough that it sometimes makes it tough to get hold of. Patience and lots of tugging and it'll come out. There should be a horseshoe shaped clip that goes halfway around the cable's metal end piece. Looks and acts like a distributor hold down clamp. It is held in place by a small bolt that goes into the tailhousing just behind the cable. I think it's a 10 mm head. Remove the bolt, pull the clip back and it will fall off in your hand. Pull the cable end piece out of the transmission and the gear you need to change is on the end of this cable. Pull it off and push on the new one and reverse the procedure to reinstall it.

Ford does not sell the 23 tooth speedo gear. Steeda does! cost is $7-15 depending on how bad you want one and who is selling it.
