Default Spring Tune-Up

I bought my car last year and finally have the money to give it a descent tune-up. I plan on replacing the plugs and probabaly the wires, what else should I replace. The last tune-up it got used cheap parts so I'm willing to spend the money to give it a good tune up.

thanks

I would definitly get a new cap and rotor. Also change the air and fuel filter. Maybe you can throw on K&N. You said it is all stock. Then I'll be the first to tell you to take the air silencer out. Thats all I can think of right now.

I got autolite platinum plugs and ford racing 9mm wires along with a new cap and rotor. I actually noticed a difference in power off the line which probably just means my old ones were crap LOL.

Later

Autolite #25 copper is fine for your 5.0 (it's what I use).

Wires: Lots of choices. I use Taylor Spiral-Pro and have also used the Ford MotorSport 9mm wires with no problem.

Get a brass-terminal distributor cap.

Get the PCV 'kit' from a Ford dealer ($10. - tops). It includes the valve, a new screen and grommet, all of which you'll need as no one ever changes these things.

The fuel filter is under the car (right - rear). Remove the gas cap before replacing the filter or you'll get sprayed.

Advance the timing to at least 12 degrees BTDC. Use 92 or higher octane gas before advancing it to avoid ping.

Check your sepentine belt for cracks and replace it if necessary (about $25.)

Lots more but this should keep you busy.

Good Luck.

You may want to try the search feature for your cold air induction question. There are tons of past posts on this subject - many with good replies.

FWIW I have the BBK kit - it has nice chrome tubes which looks nice with my chrome 75mm Bullet MAF. However, the blue gaskets that come with the kit are kind of crappy.

Good luck,
E
