Default Small town life..........

Small Town People

Those of us who grew up in a small town will laugh
when we read this.
Those of you who didn't will be in disbelief... but
trust me every one of these is true.

1) You can name everyone you graduated with

2) You know what 4-H is

3) You went to parties at a pasture, barn,or in the
middle of a dirt road.

4) You used to lap "main"

5) You said the "F" word and your parents knew within
the hour

6) You scheduled parties around the schedule of
different police officers, since you know which ones would bust you and which ones wouldn't.

7) You could never buy cigarettes because all the
store clerks knew how old you were (and if you were old enough they'd tell your parents anyhow)

8) When you did find somebody old enough and brave
enough to buy cigarettes, you still had to go out into the country
and drive on back roads to smoke them.

9) It was cool to date somebody from the neighboring
town

10) The whole school went to the same party after
graduation

11) You don't give directions by street names or
directions by references. Turn by Nelson's house, go
to 2 blocks east to Anderson's, and it's four houses left of the track (field)

12) The golf course had only 9 holes

13) You can't help but date a friend's ex-boyfriend/girlfriend

14) Your car stays filthy because of the dirt roads
and you will never own a dark vehicle for this reason

15) The town next to you is considered "trashy" or
"snooty", but is actually just like your town.

16) You refer anyone with a house newer then 1980 as
the "rich people"

17) The people in the "big city" dress funny then you
pick up the trend 2 years later

18) Anyone you want can be found at the local gas
station or the town pub

19) You see at least one friend a week driving a
tractor through town or one of your friends drives a grain truck to school occasionally

20) The gym teacher suggest you haul hay for the
summer to get stronger

21) Directions are given using THE stop light as a
reference

22) You decide to walk somewhere for exercise and 5
people pull over and ask you if you want a ride somewhere

23) Your teachers call you by your older sibling's
names

24) Your teachers remember when they taught your
parents

25) You can charge at all the local stores or write
checks without any ID

26) The closest McDonalds is 45 miles away (or more)

27) The closest mall is over an hour away

28) It is normal to see an old man riding through town
on a riding lawn mower.

29) You've peed in a cornfield.

30) Most people go by a nickname.

31) You laugh your butt off reading this because you
know it is all true

Our old man on a the riding lawnmower has a trailer that he pulls to hold his walker and oxygen! I to think that I thought we had the only one.

Ha! We didn't have a FLASHING red light until about 3 years ago!

Yeah, I laughed at every single one of those too (especially the peeing in the cornfield one, did that one today), but I have a few more to add:

- The nearest sidewalk is in the next town.

- The interstate is 20 miles that way.....or 20 miles th' udder.

- You know what a Massey-Ferg is.

- The Christmas Parade is mostly combines with Christmas lights on them....pulling a trailer with 4H members in it singing carols.

- You rode a 4-wheeler or dirt bike to school on at least one occasion, mebbe even a snowmobile.

- Even the teacher was chewing (tobacco).

- After graduating high school, it seems like everybody's come back to live around where they grew up after about 2 years "out there."

- Dial-up internet access is THE ONLY internet access.

- You have a bon fire every weekend, with old tires as fuel for it.

- You go to a get-together/bon fire, and everyone's driving a pickup truck.

- Nevermind that last one, EVERYBODY drives a pickup truck!

Okay, I'm done.

hahaha, where i live we have a golden gallon, = 7-11, same thing, a flashing yellow- red light at the bad intersection, & a few house's, i love it. see deer, hawk's , eagle's , even a coyote, every now & then, cant beat it, it's worth my 70 mile drive to work in chattanoga, when i get home, it's quite, except my car & a few hot rod's.

Muahahahahhaha....

I'm actually not involved in 4-H the least bit. I don't farm and I don't have any farm animals. So there.....not EVERY Nebraskan is a hick!

We didn't ever have a flashing red light. They still don't.

There were 74 in my graduating class and we had a stoplight too. I went to 4H camp in the summers, as a kid. We had grape vines and blueberry bushes. We went everywhere barefooted in the summer. I stopped many a night and took a leak on the side of the road.. after 11pm there is no traffic to speak of... I couldn't take a walk without every other car stopping to ask if I needed a ride(that was nice). Everyone in our little town waved when we passed and if they didn't then we knew they were either new or passing through. We left the keys in the car, the windows open and the doors to the house where never locked. I carried an outboard down to 'the landing' to clam and oyster for extra money. I chopped wood in the summer so I could stay warm in the winter. I've gotten 'lucky' in a corn field more than once. I still have to drive around tractors on the hwy but.. things just aren't quite like they ust to be.
