Stalling with A/C

I've been having problems with the engine stalling when putting in the clutch. Once I put in the clutch the revs just fall, and the engine dies. This only happens with the A/C on. I've already reset the idle and checked the TPS. I pulled a code for an Internal Regulator problem. If it's a problem with the voltage regulator why does this only happen with the A/C on? Anyone have experience with this problem? I have a '93, standard, changed over from an auto (still have the auto computer), F-cam,GT40,alum heads. Any help is appreciated!

SSPmust,

I'm having a similar problem. Mine doesn't stall with the A/C on but instead the idle drops to about 700 or 750 rpm as indicated on the factory tachometer; feels like it wants to stall but never does. Compressor is quiet, the A/C kicks out 30 degree duct temperatures even at idle on 90 degree days so I don't think there's a problem with the A/C, compressor or it's clutch.
Also, unlike you I'm not getting any trouble codes...

I posted my problem a while back on this forum and someone gave a great answer on what to look for. Unfortunately it got cold here in Michigan, my car's in storage and I never did get around to checking out the problem. Spring is just around the corner, I hope!

Anyway, I think the ECM raises the idle by measuring the voltage drop across the compressors clutch when it's energized. In your case, the internal regulator code you’re pulling might be pointing the problem. I'm not 100% sure on this, maybe the person who answered my previous AC/idle question can jump in here...

Good luck,
Phil
