Post My AOD is dieing can I rebuild whats wrong with it.

My aod in my 91 Gt is almost toast it's skipping third gear and it's not automatically shifting in overdrive. I know that the band is burnt up and my tranny fluid is a grummy black color. Can i rebuild that and should I, if so does anyone know how much that will cost. Thank you, Silver5.0

Grummy black color,ouch!

Rebuid, umm depends on who does it.

A TCI street fighter kit comes with all the parts you need for about $225.00.

A converter will cost more, if yours is bad. Grummy black, id change it to a B&M 2400 stall.

A trans shop, (Acme trans shop) will probibly charge upwards of $700.00 for exchange. That comes with the cheapest parts availibe at no extra charge.

I would; do it myself or > Go into a Ford shop, and ask a mechanic if he would consider doing it on the side. You may need to take it out first and bring it to him, w/ your good parts.

Trying to help.
