Starter motor ...(Bench test?).....Is there a way??
Is there a way to check my starter that I just rebuilt without putting it in my car? I tried one wire on the terminal and grounded the body of the starter to the (-) post on the battery..... BIG SPARKS!!!!!! Is that normal???.... Any help would be great...

You should be able to stand on it and use your jumper cables like you stated and it should push the bendix out, there should not be lots of sparks.

Yes, if you have a shakey hand, there will be sparks. I was taught in college 15 years ago that the best way to test a starter was with a 2 x 4. Mount it in a secure vice, apply voltage, and try and stop it from spinning with a 2 x 4. If you can stop it, it's junk. If you can't, it's good to go. Sounds primative, but it's accurate.

I bench tested the starter but there is still a lot of sparks like something is grounding out....Any ideas on what it may be?..
Thanks Eh... |
Does it continue to spark after the connection is secure, or does it only spark while you are making the connection?
