Default starter problem

WHen the weather is hot and I go for a drive and make a stop, I find the car is struggling to start. The battery is fine and the starter is 2 yrs old. We think that it might be b/c the starter is getting too hot from the engine. Has anyone else had the same problem and how did you remedy this? Problem is even worse on ahot summer day.
