starter clearance problems
I'm upgrading my cluth setup from the 10.5 to the 11". I have a lakewood bellhousing and Mac 1 3/4 longtubes and the starter touches the header in it's stock location. When I put in the new clutch I have to move the starter out some but there is no room.
Anyone ever run into this? I herd that the starters are smaller on the 93 mustangs, is this true? Anyone have any ideas? ------------------ NA 347 W/ stage 2 Canfield heads, out of the box Victor 5.0 intake, solid roller cam, Aeromotive fuel system. Yes, go to your local parts store and pick up a starter for a 93 Mustang 5.0. THat is what I did when I had Long Tube Header issues with my 91' Starter.
Actually, now I think about it, I also picked up a Wiring kit, because the wiring is a bit different on that style starter. I don't recall the part number, but the guy at the Ford Parts Counter gave me all the info. You could call Holcomb Motorsports, they could hook you up with everything. |

How much smaller are those '93 starters?
Do you think it would clear up the "hot start" problem that I have with my '82GT My exhaust runs right next to the starter. How much different can the wiring be? All you need is a power wire from the battery. ------------------ '82 GT 351W C-4,BBK headers,Carter 625 carb,Comp.Cam,Flowmaster exhaust. 1988 GT...T-5,bone stock |

Well, my 91 has long tubes and that BIG FAT STARTER that was on it would rub right up against one of the tubes. Drive the car for awhile and park it, go back a few minutes later and it acted like the battery was dead or something.......you know the same old story when a starter gets "Heat Soaked" as they say.
So I got an 93' starter, it is smaller and lighter Because it has a little solenoid (?) sitting atop the actual starter unit a hot wire runs from that to the (+) side of the Ignition Solenoid, then there is some black cable that comes off the old Starter and that runs to the (-) I THINK! Dont remember, I did it like two years ago.....memory is fading fast. So that is really it. Solved ALL my starter problems. -James |

I just reused the old cable to the starter but I had to open the hole up a little bigger for it to fit on the starter.
On the solenoid, the side that has the cable that goes to your starter you will have to run a smaller wire from there to the male connector on the starter and move the big cable on the solenoid over to the other post so that the starter gets power all the time. Does that make any sense? ------------------ James Cox nochevy@hotmail.com 1991 Mustang LX 12.565 @109.38mph 1.764 60ft |
