starter problems

When I start my Mustang ,before its warmed up, it starts fine. But when I drive it and it warms up, acts like a dead battery. Also the lead from the neg.side gets hot and burns. But when you let it sit and cool off its fine again. I have replaced the starter and solenid. Battery and alternator are fine. Did I get a bad rebuilt starter?? Thats what i suspect, but would like confirmation as its a pain to get to,and dont want to do it again.

I went through 3 rebuilt ones, they all did what yours does. I replaced it with a Powermaster high torque mini starter, and it starts perfectly now for about 1 1/2 years! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif Good luck!

Check the connections. Especially the ground cable.

I have to agree with Mercury. A hot ground cable usually means a bad connection or the cable is starting to come apart internally or at the ends.Take the cable off at both ends and clean up the ends and the mating surface very well and see what happens.
