Starting problem
Hey, can anyone tell me what my problem might be. I have a 89 mustang, whenever I turn the key on everything works. But when I actually try to start the car it doesnt do anything and everything goes off, all the lights and everything, only when its in the actual cranking position. Other than a short, can anyone tell me what the problem might be?

Did you check the battery for loose connections or bad connections period? Take off the connections, clean the terminals, and tighten the cables back on. If those are OK, it could be your battery and possibly the alternator.

Uhh Ohh!
Sounds like you may have a short in your battery. Try it with another and see if there's a difference. If not, the problem may lie in your ignition switch... hope it helps.

I really doubt its a battery problem. Sounds more like a short in the cars electrical system. By any chance do you have an alarm in the car?

Well everyone, thanks for the advice. I found out the problem, everytime I tried to crank it, the hot wire would get "hot" I felt the wire going to the starter, where it connects to the starter, it was also "hot". I took the starter off and sure enough it was locked up. I put another starter on it, she cranked right up. I guess when I was driving it the starter wasnt releasing, and was wanting to lock up, until it finally just completly locked up. I tried to turn the gear by hand, it would not turn. Kinda stange I think, but that was it...............Thanks again for everyones advice.....

MattwantsSpeed, I'm in East Springfield, near 291. Pretty close to Hampden.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that area. You should head up to Lebanon Valley, NY to run your car on Wednesday nights. A couple buddies of mine who have a 92 and 91 LX's run up there on Wednesday's. They're going to night to run along with my friend in a T-Bird SC. A bunch of us like to go.
