Static Timing???
What is static timing and are there expensive tools involved in getting this? Thanks!

Dude, Static Timing is easy, and you dont need any special tools to do the job, all you need is a standard inductive timing light from any autoparts...
what is static timing? it is the timing you have at IDLE, without any vacume advance (for carb) and with the spout connector removed (for efi). set your Static Timing in this fashion: for carb, disconnect and plug the vacume advance hose from the distributor, looosen the distributor nut, and then, hook up the timing light to the battery terminals and clip it over the number 1 cylinder spark plug wire (front passenger side).. then, run the engine at idle speed and set your timing using this scale: Cam duration-Advance-Idle speed 270 10-12 600-800 280 12-14 900-1000 290 14-16 1000-1100 300 16-18 1100-1200 310+ 18-20 1100-1400 basically, if your cam has a 270 advertised duration, set your static (base) timing to 10-12 degrees.. and your idle speed should be around 600-800 rpms... then, to finish off, tighten down the distributor bolt, and plug your vacume line back into the distributor, your done. for EFI, it is the same timing scale, just disconnect the SPOUT connector which is on the distributor wiring harness, its a little grey plug in a socket, just remove it and set the base timing, then, connect it when your done.
