Default Steeda quadrant question

I just installed a new steeda quadrant. Once done, I noticed that with the quadrant on, and cotter pins installed, the quad itself is able to slide back and forth on the shafts. Is this normal? should I try to center it with the cable hole using washers? Or will the cable tension keep it centered?

Also, what is the correct routing path for the clutch cable? I dont think it was previously installed correctly, causing the bushing at the firewall to get badly distorted (and possibly contribute to my transmission problems )

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
J
