Post stock cat h pipe

So I know a guy with a stock h cat pipe on his car. I am putting my off road on toady, and he claims because he used "rebar" to break out the guts of the cat convertor, he is running an off road pipe. Is there any truth/gain to this, I thought the air flow might be all messed up...

I guess you can say he is running an off-road pipe just because he has gutted the cats. This does change the air-flow I'm not sure how much. The biggest difference is most off road pipe's are 2 1/2 inches compared to the 2 1/4 inch stock pipe. I gutted my cats before getting a 2 1/2 h pipe. There was a big diffence in torque. Also I did not like the sound of the gutted pipe it was real tingy sounding. If you get tested for emissions I would keep the factory cats and bolt them on for the test. Even an old cat h-pipe is better than none.

thanks, I plan to keep the stock pipe, we dont have sniffs, but they do look for cats. at annual inspections. Anyway, did you loose torque? and this guy is kinda a "tinkerer", you know, making things "better" than buying them new, which is not all bad...

It just sounds like a$$...I did that back in my ultra cheap high school days on my 88GT...it was cool considering it was loud for free, but to tingy for me now...
