Default stock tach problem

one day when i started my car the tach would not go below 2500 rpm's and as motor rpm started moving it was a thousand too high. It went away that night for 30 minutes. then came back. Ive been rockin it like that for about 2 months but im finally sick of it. could someone diagnose this. i think its a bad ground.
