Strange Clicking in 2nd
 

Hello,

I recently purchased a 1994 Cobra with 68k miles. It's in pretty good condition, and pretty much everything checked out from buyers inspections.

However, there is a clicking sound that occurs only in second gear, at any RPM (as long as I am accelerating). The previous owner claimed that the sound was a loose spring that needed to be reattached to a post, on the top of the transmission. But, everyone I have mentioned this to says that they have no clue what he is talking about. Is there a spring above the tranny that corresponds to second gear only? If not, any ideas on what the problem could be?

Also, if that is the problem, could it be reached by removing the console and unbolting the shifter? Because needless to say, removal of the transmission is a very tough job, and costs a lot of money to have done at a mechanic.

Pulling a t-5 isnt as bad as it sounds, you can save money doing it yourself, i pulled mine 3 times on a dirt/gravel driveway:(

I hate to tell you this, but my t-5 starting clicking in 2nd and 3rd, it turned out to be the cluster shaft in the t-5, and it finally broke in pieces one day! i drove home with 4th gear only........

oh yea, that guy is probaly full of it, trying to make it sound simple, i dont think there would be a spring on top making a noise.
But anyhow, good luck, just be ready for anything with that t-5, could blow tomorrow, could blow next year?

Does anyone have any other ideas on what it the sound could be? Also, would it be possible to reach the top of the tranny (if it were a spring) through the console by unbolting the shifter? Thanks a lot,

tranny is damaged. second gear components are damaged and probably has a broken tooth or worn one. Sounds like the tranny was shifted hard from first to second alot. if you hurry and get it repaired you could save yourself the whole tranny rebiuld.
