Strarter Problem
My car will start fine when it's cold, but once it gets up to operating tempature it is very hard to start. And sometimes it won't start until its cooled down. I can hear the starting trying to turn the motor.I replaced the starter within the last 2 yrs. I thought it last a liitle than it has. Maybe my headers cause additional heat and this shortens the life of my starter. Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated.

starter
I had the same problem when we put a 351 in my 87. Headers were too close to the starter. Ended up wrapping the headers on that side and putting a shield around the starter. It does ok now, except on really hot days, then may have some delay.
You might try one of the small high output starters also. Also use a 1000 cranking amp battery. |
I have the EXACT same problem, and my starter is brand new hi-torque mini. It's the heat from the headers that expands the internals of the starter. I am currently looking for a place that sells the good metl heat shields and if I find anything I'll post something in that regards. If anyone knows of a place that sells them, please let me know. I had to push my car up to tech inspect last week to make my 1st run she was so hot. :D

Thanks for the input. I thought about wrapping my headers there just gonna be a pain to get off.
