Street heat or track heat
My mods can be seen in my sig. I am leaning torwards the track heat but when I e-mailed trickflow they said to go with street heat. I also plan on adding a 70mm Tb and a 150 shot (wet) in the near future, along with some other minor stuff.
Which intake should I go with? |
I would go with the street heat unless you are planning on adding a little bigger cam. You really don't need the extra rpm potential provided by the track heat. If you plan on adding a bigger cam and maybe some head porting go with the track heat.
Also on the EFI I would go with a dry n20 kit and not the wet to help eliminate the chance of a nitrous backfire through the intake. |
i would go with the NOS big shot plate system, which is wet, but doesnt travel throught he upper, eliminateing any backfire concerns.
Why change your manifold at all? I think the cobra manifold is good for your combination as it is. |

Your cam is a low rpm cam....what I mean by that is that it peaks out around 5500. The Street head's power bank is listed as "idle to 5500" The Track Heat is listed higher....about like the Holley, but performs nowhere like it. If you change cams or port, I'd skip the Trach Heat and go with the Holley, but until then stick with the Street Heat.

In my opinion, go with the track heat. I have a friend with the track heat on his car (SN95). He currently has a 331, but when he had his 302, he was running the TFS heads and stage one cam with the street heat. His best was a high 12 @ ~103-104mph, he switched to the track heat (exchange with another guy he knew) in anticipation of the 331. While still running the 302, he increased his trap speeds to a high 105mph with just the intake change. He is now looking for a better intake for his 331 (hate to tell him, but I told him so)
The #s on those intakes are for marketing and usually that only. I was told time and time again that my intake was too big for my application, but I sure had a smirk on my face when I was pulling them. TFS also told me my valve springs were ok for my application since I was not reving past 6000rpm. Well how about an ~(calculated)3-4mph increase with just the valve spring replacement. When they say an intake has a certain rpm range, it usually means where it would like to make the most power if all else was stock This always not the case ofcourse, but I have come to find out this IS the case with the TFS products. I would stay with the intake U have now till U get all the other parts ready to be put in. BTW the TFS street heat WILL NOT make ANY power over the Cobra one, in other words a waste of money. I don't know....I just don't see a two mph increase in those intakes....especially with the Stage 1 cam. I think he hay have had a better tune. The Holley is the only Intake that I have ever seen a 2 mph increase on. The Track Heat only flows 8 cfm more than the Street and the Holley flows 16.
Also, the Street Heat made 13 more rwhp with my car on the dyno than my old Cobra. Before the Blower and Stroker. I guess you could say it is all in the tune, but my timing and fp was the same with both setups. I also had a Stage 2 TFS cam. The Cobra has less CFM 220 versus 245, and the EGR on the Cobra is a bottleneck. I am not saying that the Cobra isn't a good Intake, it is just that I had phenominal gains with it. |
I would have to agree with Mach 1. What is wrong withe Cobra intake you have now? I don't think you will see a large H.P. gain by going to a street heat. I personally am going to get the Holley on this winter, but I will be running a more aggressive cam and supercharger.

I think it will make more power with a slightly better flowing intake than the stge 1 cam would. I swapped my cam for the AFM one before I got the intake. I honestly did not go much faster (if at all), but I have to blame my valve springs more than the GT40 intake I had. With the intake swap, I ran the #s in my sig. Also I made that opinion on the Cobra cos I have heard time and time again on this very board that the GT40 does not make much more power than the Cobra and my 'guesstimated' comparism was with a GT40 unit. Oh yea, on the matter of tune, he did not have any change at all. No dyno, timing (15deg) or fuel (42psi) change at all. Disclaimer: I had clogged cats, and bad fuel filter, but those alone will not give me an increase of more than 5mph. |
