Strokers are great. My 331 is fun, low compression and has already gotten me to a mid 12's @ 110 on drag radials with 1.9 and 2.0 60's. This is a mild 331 with 9.2:1 comp to boot!
So, if you're looking for 375-400 HP, the 302 based strokers (331/347 the most common) will get you there easily. The 351 based strokers will get you even more HP, but with slightly more cost and weight.
There are no real 'negatives' to Ford small block strokers as long as you use quality parts, have good machine work and a knowledgable builder.
